Introduction
Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is an illness caused by a virus (more specifically, a coronavirus) called the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV). Most MERS patients developed severe respiratory disease with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. About 3 or 4 out of every 10 patients reported with MERS have died.
The BioPerfectus MERS-CoV Real Time PCR Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test, based on real-time PCR technology, for the detection of RNA from the MERS-CoV. Specimens can be obtained from human nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs.
