BioPerfectus Avian Influenza Virus Subtype H5N2 Real Time PCR Kit

H5N2 is a subtype of Influenza A viruses, classified based on the two major surface glycoproteins hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). The H5N2 subtype has been identified in a wide range of avian species, including chickens, ducks, turkeys, falcons, and ostriches.

Outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N2 have been associated with significant mortality in poultry populations, leading to substantial economic losses in affected farms. Historical outbreaks, such as those reported in 1983, caused widespread disease in chickens and turkeys across multiple regions. Infected poultry may require large-scale culling to control spread.

Occasional zoonotic transmission to humans has been reported in individuals with close contact to infected birds, although documented cases generally present with mild or limited symptoms such as conjunctivitis or mild respiratory illness. To date, there is no evidence of sustained human-to-human transmission of H5N2.
