The Monkeypox Virus Real Time PCR Kit is a real-time PCR-based assay designed for the in vitro qualitative detection of monkeypox virus DNA. Monkeypox virus belongs to the genus Orthopoxvirus within the family Poxviridae, which also includes variola virus, vaccinia virus, and cowpox virus. Monkeypox was first identified in 1958 in laboratory monkeys and is characterized in humans by fever, headache, muscle aches, exhaustion, and lymphadenopathy, which helps differentiate it from smallpox. Transmission may occur through contact with infected animals, humans, or contaminated materials, entering the body via broken skin, respiratory tract, or mucosal surfaces.

The assay targets conserved regions of the F3L gene of monkeypox virus and includes an internal control (RNase P) to monitor specimen quality and nucleic acid extraction performance.
