BioPerfectus Monkeypox Virus (MPXV) Fast Real Time PCR Kit

The monkeypox virus is a double-stranded DNA virus belonging to the family Poxviridae, the same family as the variola virus. Human infection with monkeypox virus mainly occurs through bites or scratches from infected animals, or through direct contact with blood, body fluids, or lesion exudates from infected animals. Transmission may occur from animals to humans and, less commonly, from human to human.

Clinical manifestations may include high fever, headache, back pain, general malaise, cough, and lymphadenopathy, often accompanied by a generalized rash similar to that of smallpox, and occasionally abdominal pain. Monkeypox infection is generally self-limiting, with symptoms typically lasting 2–4 weeks. Reported case fatality rates vary by outbreak context, ranging from 0%–11% in the general population and approximately 3%–6% in children in recent reports.

The BioPerfectus Monkeypox Virus (MPXV) Fast Real Time PCR Kit is a real-time PCR assay using hydrolysis probe technology designed for the detection of monkeypox virus nucleic acids. The assay enables detection of one or more viral targets in a single reaction.

The assay is compatible with a variety of specimen types, including tonsillar swabs, nasopharyngeal swabs, serum, whole blood, lesion exudate, and scab samples.
